David
Shillinglaw’s ‘Bodyscan’ artworks are a lengthy process that is deeply personal
for David. The bodies are made by using various collaging techniques, you may
see a fleck of paint or droplets of water on the paper, but this is all intentionally
done to represent scars and the fragility of a human being. The writing around
the body is what David describes as the body’s personality, this can be inspired
by poems, his shopping list, his memories, the music playing on the radio and
anything else that is around or within him at that time. The title of the
artwork came from David's printer who would scan the bodies for photos. This title
stuck with David as it’s also the title of one of his meditation practices.
