"I love watching people - their mannerisms and gestures. This painting is about a burst of free-flowing conversation and interaction within a group - the rhythm and flow of movement and conversation. In this painting I wanted to deliver a mood of intensity and energy I often listen to all kinds of music, poetry podcasts and the radio whilst in my studio working the words and sounds influence my work – they give me ideas and sometimes a spoken word will trigger an idea and I’ll scribble that word on my studio wall. This painting went through a phase of being quite controlled and then some unexpected marks appeared which freed up the whole composition – I followed the flow and continued in the direction it was leading me allowing the painting to reveal its rhythm as I worked - a bit like how jazz musicians improvise and respond to each other's rhythms and chords." - Corinna Button.
