Corinna's inspiration behind 'Moving Into Focus:
"Ideas develop from conversations, observing body language and how people interact and influence each other. I like to suggest narratives or a drama just beginning to unfold. Ideas and concepts appear within the painting process itself. Each layer is a reaction to the one before. I bury and flood surfaces with texture and paint layers then excavate and scrape away often discovering new inspiration in the underlying layer. I like to ‘unearth’ my images. I think that is the printmaker and sculptor part of me. My aim in this painting was to completely immerse the figures amongst a ‘cocktail’ of embossed papers, pattern and paint to evoke excitement, tension, anticipation and glamour. They could be schmoozing at an art opening or perhaps the opera… My intention here was to capture an essence, a moment and an aspect of city life – The following words from the poem ‘Pro Femina ‘by Caroline Kizer resonate and inspired this and many of my recent works. "Our masks always in peril of smearing or cracking, in need of continuous check in the mirror or silverware, keep us thrall to ourselves, concerned with our surfaces" - Corinna Button
