Corinna's inspiration behind her 'Ad-Libbing painting:
"Recalls passionate conversations about theatre, music and poetry. My aim in this painting was to completely immerse the figures in an atmosphere of music and drama. Beginning a painting, I don’t always have an exact idea of what I am trying to achieve, rather I improvise with collaged shapes and patterns and then I react to it with marks and brush stokes and let the painting reveal its rhythm as I work - a bit like how jazz musicians improvise and respond to each other’s rhythms and chords. The unpredictable way in which I layer and collage materials between the paint, interrupts the surface and reveals little windows that can be peered into and which I hope tempts the viewer to look in and become absorbed in the atmosphere of the work instead of trying to find a particular hidden narrative." - Corinna Button
