This series focusses on finding beauty in
imperfection. The work is inspired by both magic realism in Japanese literary
works and ideas of transience and impermanence in traditional Japanese
aesthetics.
Both recognise
that nothing lasts, exploring memory, time, and cyclical or decaying histories
whilst cherishing the beauty in things passing away, evoking a gentle
melancholy and a floating world.
The
artwork is created layering an old Japanese glass plate photograph and scenes
from vintage Japanese silk scrolls which are printed onto gold leaf.
