This medium rendering of Baker's Aqua Mint colourway carries the same intention as its large sibling: to paint the aura, the electromagnetic energy field that bridges our spiritual and physical body, in the tones of aquamarine, associated in spiritual realms with cleansing energy and, like the waves of the ocean, with trusting and letting go, with the shades of blue jade included as a talisman of peace, restoring equilibrium to the observer. Made for Enter Gallery's Art Yard Sale 2023, this edition translates the aura onto a 70 x 70 cm canvas: the same concentric gradient of cool aqua, mint and blue jade radiating from a central core, hand-finished with diamond dust so the surface glitters as the viewer moves. The smaller scale changes the work's voice. Where the large format reads as a field, a body of water, the medium reads as a talisman, something close-held, restorative, the size of a window or a moon seen from a doorway. The Crystal Rock finish gives the shimmer a mineral edge, sea-worn stone rather than open water, water and its bed in one image.
