A square-format mixed media artwork by British artist Lauren Baker titled To The Moon & Back, Auric Moon. At the centre, a detailed full moon glows with soft grey light, its craters and mottled surface visible. Around the moon radiates a diffused aura of pastel colour, peach, soft green and lavender melting into the dusky mauve ground. Encircling the moon, pink neon script curves in handwritten cursive, reading 'I love you to the moon & back', the words looping around the lunar disc like a orbit of light. The neon's warm pink glow spills onto the aura behind it, and the whole composition sits in a slim black frame. The image pairs the photographic realism of the moon with the intimacy of a handwritten love note in light Lauren Baker | To The Moon & Back - Auric Moon - Pink Neon
A close-up detail of To The Moon & Back, Auric Moon, the mixed media artwork by British artist Lauren Baker. The photograph looks across part of the composition: on the right, the surface of the moon glows with a speckled, crystalline texture, tiny sparkling particles scattered across its craters like frost. On the left, the pink neon script curves through the frame, the individual glass tubes and their wiring mounts clearly visible, the letters glowing hot pink where the light is densest. The warm neon light spills across the moon's edge, softening its surface into a rosy haze. The angle reveals the piece's physical construction: real glass tubes standing proud of the canvas, and a moon that is painted and embellished rather than printed. An angled close-up of To The Moon & Back, Auric Moon, the mixed media artwork by British artist Lauren Baker. The photograph looks down across the surface of the piece: the moon's disc fills the upper half, its pale grey surface densely coated in sparkling, crystal-like embellishment that catches the light like frost. Around and in front of it, the thick pink neon tubes curve through the lower frame in soft-focus loops, their warm glow washing the scene in rose tones. Along the top edge, the neon's small mounting posts and wiring are visible, standing the tubes off the surface. The angled view shows the work's true dimensionality: the neon floating above the embellished moon, light layered over light. A low, close view across the surface of To The Moon & Back, Auric Moon, the mixed media artwork by British artist Lauren Baker. The moon's disc fills most of the frame, its silvery grey surface thick with sparkling embellishment, the glitter catching points of light like frost or starlight across the mottled craters. Along the upper edge, the pink neon script sits on its mounting posts, the letters 'y' and looping curves visible in warm pink glow, with wiring and fixings clear behind them. The warm ambient light suggests a studio setting, the work photographed close to the eye, emphasising the tactile texture of the surface and the handmade join between painted canvas and glass tube. An auric moon, glowing. In this large-format work, a pink neon moon radiates over an ink-painted aura on fine art canvas, held in a wooden box tray frame. The title says the sentiment plainly, love that reaches to the moon and back, and the image makes it physical: the neon ring is the moon, ever present and ever radiating its energy over us, while the painted field beneath it is the aura that answers, the invisible made visible in ink.The work belongs to Baker's celestial aura series, alongside Radiant Moon, whose artist's text describes bathing in moonlight and the aura's energy inspired by the heart chakra, the seat of love. Pink is her colour of affection and warmth, and at this scale, 137 x 137 cm, the piece reads less like a picture of the moon than like moonlight itself entering the room, its neon glow washing over the painted surface the way the real moon washes over the night. It is a love letter written in the medium Baker knows best: light.Handmade in neon glass over ink on fine art canvas, presented in a wooden box tray frame. Signed and numbered from an edition of 6. Unframed: 137 x 137 cm; framed: 140 x 140 cm. £15,000.
