This painting began with a vision forming in Toni's mind of a vague composition, two faces appearing and fading, warm and cool, but as the painting was worked on the faces kept changing, more layers added. Collage and words are laid onto the canvas purely intuitively, in a way that 'feels right', so it was a lovely synchronocity when the words 'modern unknown' emerged from the layers between the 2 faces, finally resolving the painting's search and solidifying its intent.
