The architectural form in this piece is inherently brutal conveying eastern European post-war architecture. The texture in the paint illustrates the texture of concrete from a period when concrete was predominant in construction.

All of my work from this series feature geometric shapes as an indication of man-made structures (the temporary marks we leave on the landscape) interacting with the fluid, organic backdrop of abstracted landforms.

In this piece the structure is splintered – a metaphor for the demise of so many post-war brutalist structures in the new era of redevelopment.

The architectural form initially appears dominant, but closer inspection reveals the landform resisting the challenge of civilisation where man-made structures compete with the landscape – nature versus structure.

The metallic diagonal lines in the sky are deliberately broken, and tonally similar to parts of the sky creating movement in changing light.
