This is a very personal piece for many reasons. Firstly, the
figure of the man in a hat has become a motif in my work - it reappears many
times across different pieces. My initial idea was to create a piece inspired
by the Sergio Leone 'spaghetti westerns', lots of different expressive faces in
intimate close up, capturing all the sweat and wrinkles in a way
other directors might frame a landscape. From a distance the
piece itself might look abstract, or like windows in a building, closer
inspection would reveal the faces.
