An invitation to go within. The Opening is a reflective lenticular formed of four abstract paintings, merged so that they flow into one another as the viewer moves. Where its sister work The Beginning poses the invitation, The Opening answers it: at its monumental scale, the shifting surface behaves less like a picture and more like a window, opening and closing between states as you walk past it.The lenticular form is the message. Baker uses the medium's inherent change to embody transition itself, the moment a fixed view gives way and something new appears through it. As the four paintings cross over one another, the work asks the viewer to surrender to the unknown, to release the fixed image and trust what emerges in its place. Enhanced life-force and new beginnings beckon; life becomes a journey into the glorious unknown. The scale makes the piece a presence in the room. At 118.8 x 84.1 cm unframed, it holds a wall the way her light installations hold a space, and the white wood box frame with anti-reflective glass keeps the focus on the reflective surface and its shifting light. Signed and numbered from an edition of just 10. Unframed: 118.8 x 84.1 x 1 cm; framed: 123 x 88 x 5 cm. £4,500, with anti-reflective glass framing at £550.
