Judith Brenner Artist Biography
An Exploration of Movement, Emotion and Abstraction
Judith Brenner is a London-based contemporary artist renowned for her expressive abstract paintings and distinctive approach to mixed media. Working across painting, drawing and collage, Judith explores the relationship between the human experience, environment and emotion. Her original abstract artworks are characterised by energetic mark-making, layered textures and an instinctive use of colour, creating compositions that balance spontaneity with thoughtful expression. Drawing inspiration from life, movement and the ever-changing world around her, Judith's work offers a compelling exploration of contemporary abstract art.
The Alchemy of Art and Emotion
At the heart of Judith's artistic practice is the concept of alchemy: the transformation of experiences, memories and surroundings into expressive works of art. Through a process of layering, experimentation and intuitive mark-making, she translates personal responses to places, landscapes and life experiences into abstract compositions. Her paintings frequently explore the relationship between strength and vulnerability, control and spontaneity, allowing colour, texture and form to evolve organically. Each original painting becomes a deeply personal interpretation of the world around her, capturing the energy and emotion of a particular moment.
Inspired by Movement, Dance and the Human Form
The human body and its capacity for movement are central influences in Judith's work. Inspired particularly by dance and life drawing, she translates the energy, rhythm and physical expression of the moving figure into abstract forms. Her expressive paintings blur the boundaries between figurative and abstract art, using gestural brushwork, fragmented shapes and fluid lines to suggest movement, presence and emotion. Working with acrylic, pastel, ink and mixed media, Judith creates richly layered artworks that invite the viewer to look beyond the surface and discover their own interpretation.
Artistic Background and Exhibitions
Judith graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1986 and has continued to develop her practice through further study, including the Newlyn School of Art Mentoring Scheme, Falmouth School of Art Summer Intensives and Turps Art School's Offsite Painting Programme. Her paintings are held in private art collections across the UK, Europe, the United States, Australia and Israel. Today, Judith continues to develop her distinctive approach to contemporary abstract painting, creating original artworks that celebrate the expressive possibilities of colour, movement and mixed media.
