Zoe Scutts: British Contemporary Artist

Zoe Scutts, also known as Zoë Scutts, is a British contemporary artist and designer maker working across ceramics, glass, plaster and mixed media. Her contemporary art explores typography, language, communication and materiality through minimalist sculpture, ceramic design, glass art and collectible contemporary craft.

Contemporary Ceramics and Glass Sculpture

Scutts creates refined ceramic sculpture, tactile vessels, carved pots, bowls, ombré ceramics, glass artworks and wall-mounted mixed-media pieces. Inspired by Japanese minimalism, her work combines bold graphic forms with subtle textures, carefully controlled colour and an expressive interplay of light and shadow. Her contemporary ceramics balance functional design with sculptural presence.

Typography, Memory and Materiality

Through her Traces series, Zoe Scutts transforms familiar objects including cameras, radios, headphones and Walkmans into delicate plaster and glass impressions. Using experimental casting and vacuum-forming techniques, she explores memory, obsolescence, touch and the emotional significance of everyday technology. Her work gives physical form to language, communication and the traces left by objects over time.

Graphic Design and Contemporary Craft

Zoe Scutts holds a first-class BA Honours degree in Graphic Design from LCC and a Master’s degree in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art. Her graphic design background informs the clarity of her compositions, while her ceramics and glass practice brings depth, texture and tactile meaning. Represented through Process Gallery and The Drang Gallery, Scutts is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and an important voice in British contemporary craft and mixed-media art.
