THE LONDON POLICE | ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

The London Police (TLP) are a British contemporary art duo formed by artists Chaz Barrisson and Bob Gibson in 1998. Originally from the UK, the pair travelled to Amsterdam with the aim of bringing their distinctive style of street art and graffiti art to the city’s walls. What began as a street-based artistic project quickly developed into an internationally recognised contemporary art movement. Today, The London Police are celebrated for their instantly recognisable visual language, combining bold black-and-white linework, playful characters and intricate architectural illustrations.

The Iconic LADS

At the heart of The London Police's artwork are the instantly recognisable LADS – distinctive, round-headed characters with simple faces and an unmistakably playful personality. Created and developed by Chaz Barrisson, the LADS began as simple doodles before evolving into the bold, iconic figures associated with TLP today. Bob Gibson’s contribution brings a contrasting level of detail through his highly precise architectural drawings, portraits, vehicles and imaginative cityscapes. Together, these two approaches create a unique fantasy world that is both humorous and meticulously constructed. A defining feature of The London Police’s practice is their commitment to drawing by hand, using confident lines and intricate detail rather than relying heavily on digital processes or stencils.

From Graffiti to Contemporary Art

Although firmly rooted in graffiti and street art, The London Police have developed their practice far beyond the urban environment. Following their early street interventions, the duo progressed into canvas works, gallery exhibitions and increasingly ambitious large-scale murals. Their artistic practice has also expanded into photography, short films, installations and music, while their distinctive characters and graphic style have become highly sought after by collectors of contemporary and urban art. The London Police have exhibited and undertaken projects internationally, with their work appearing in more than 35 countries.

Collecting The London Police

With an established international exhibition history and a global following, The London Police prints and artworks are highly appealing to collectors looking for bold, characterful contemporary art with strong street-art credentials.
