The 2012 Oscars provided the opportunity for producing a print based on my now familiar grid system. The 84 films that have won best picture award since its inception provided the basis for a rectangle comprising seven by twelve images. The first film to win the Academy Award for best picture was Sunrise Wings in 1928 (the award is presented in the following year). This print is a selection of stills from each winning movie from 1929 to 2011. Each image has been cropped to fit an implied movie frame, colour corrected and then generally cleaned up to remove blemishes and to enhance loss of shadow detail particularly in the case of the older movies. The large numbers refer to the date of the film and the line drawn gold Oscar figurine to the winners' award. The title refers to the opening line of the acceptance speeches of most recipients of the award and the enjoyment watching films has given to the author of the print. 'I Would Like To Thank...' is a signed limited edition comprising 50 digital prints each finished with a silk-screen printed satin protection varnish, an Ultra Violet glaze on each of the stills and a transparent gold silk-screen printed Oscar figure. The image was generated on computer using Adobe Illustrator and proofed and editioned on an Epson 9900 using Epson archival inks on Somerset Satin 335gsm Enhanced paper. I would like to thank... is a first generation original print, which only exists in this form.
