Original Works

A vertical-format mixed media artwork by British artist Lauren Baker titled Be Here Now. The surface is a sheet of crushed, reflective metallic material tinted deep pink and rose, its creases and folds catching the light so the whole panel shimmers like crumpled foil or a rough gemstone face. Set into this terrain are two triangles drawn in glowing pink-and-white neon: the upper triangle points downward, the lower triangle points upward, their tips approaching each other at the panel's centre without touching. The neon light reflects and fractures across the creased metal around it, so the geometry of the two triangles seems to radiate through the entire surface. The composition holds the two opposing triangles in tension, facing one another along a mirrored path. Lauren Baker | Be Here Now
An alternate view of Be Here Now, the mixed media neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker. The full height of the vertical panel is visible: a sheet of crushed metallic material in deep pink and rose, its creases glittering with reflected light. The two neon triangles sit at the centre, the upper one pointing downward and the lower one pointing upward, their white-hot edges glowing pink against the folded surface, a clear gap between their tips. The angle shows the uneven, sculptural contour of the panel's edges and the way the neon's glow is echoed in the reflective creases all around it. Lauren Baker | Be Here Now | Side View
A styled interior photograph showing Be Here Now, the mixed media neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker, hung within a tall arched alcove of soft pink plaster. The crumpled metallic panel glows hot pink, its two neon triangles reading clearly against the folds, lit warmly by a round skylight set in the ceiling above. The alcove opens onto a terracotta-toned room where a small green glass vase with a plant sprig sits to the left and another vessel rests in the foreground, the whole scene in a calm, sunbaked palette. The shot demonstrates how the work's pink glow and sculptural surface sit naturally within a warm, Mediterranean-toned interior, the arched architecture echoing the vertical format of the piece. Be Here Now is a meditation on presence, built from mirrored triangles and rocky ground. In pink neon, metal, canvas and mixed media, two triangles face each other along a mirrored path: pointing downward for the feminine, upward for the masculine, each directing its energy toward the other. Energetically, Baker notes, triangles direct power in the direction they point, so the composition holds two forces in deliberate tension, a meeting rather than a collision. The terrain beneath them carries the work's harder-won meaning. The rocky surface of the mirror represents an understanding that takes time to ruminate on, the artist's own reflection: your perception of me is a reflection of you, and my response to you is an awareness of me. The title comes from Ram Dass's book Be Here Now, which Baker read soon after a period of silence, and which she describes as a bubble she lived inside until it ended and she felt a little lost, like losing a lover. The work is what she made of that ending: a resolution to return, again and again, to the present. Remember, remember, remember to be here now. Handmade in pink neon over metal, canvas and mixed media on wood, the work measures H118 x W85 x D4 cm, the vertical format drawing the eye upward through the mirrored triangles like a path ascending. £12,000.
