Original Works

A diptych artwork by British artist Lauren Baker titled Threshold. Two square panels covered in white cracked mosaic sit side by side, separated by a narrow vertical gap of light. Across their meeting point glows a white neon diamond, drawn as two mirrored triangles, one pointing up and one pointing down, their tips meeting at the central divide. The neon's light radiates softly into the surrounding mosaic, illuminating the fractured texture around it. The visual contrast of broken mosaic and pure glowing light carries the work's theme: standing at a threshold, suspended between one state and another. Lauren Baker | Threshold
A diptych artwork by British artist Lauren Baker titled Threshold, shown here in a black frame against darker lighting. Two square panels covered in grey-white cracked mosaic sit side by side, separated by a narrow vertical gap. Across their meeting point glows a white neon diamond drawn as two mirrored triangles, one pointing up and one pointing down, with the central divide running between them so their tips do not quite touch. The neon light ripples outward across the mosaic's fractured texture in a soft halo, illuminating the rough surface around it. The separation at the heart of the glowing diamond carries the work's theme: standing at a threshold, held open between one state and another. Lauren Baker | Threshold | On Wall

Threshold speaks to the spaces between: the liminal zones where one reality dissolves and another has yet to form. The work is a diptych of two mirrored panels, divided at its centre by light. One triangle ascends, the other descends, held in perfect tension across a narrow gap, neither complete without the other. The composition suggests the meeting of dimensions, the invisible architecture that separates this world from what lies beyond. Baker invites us to stand at the edge. Between life and afterlife. Between one choice and another. Between the self we know and the self we are becoming. The cracked white mosaic that covers each panel maps a surface full of history, of fracture and endurance, a visual language she first explored in There Is A Crack In Everything (That's How The Light Gets In), where broken mosaic stood for thought and light for the soul. Here, the neon does not fill the gap between the panels; it illuminates it, holding open the question of what crossing means. To stand at a threshold is to be suspended in pure possibility. Constructed in white neon, glass, mixed media and wood, the work measures H100 x W85 x D8 cm overall, its two panels separated by a 2 cm central gap that lets the wall's shadow become part of the composition. A unique original work. £15,000.
