Jean-Michel Basquiat is an artist Toni has huge respect for, his fluidity and ease of expression. When thinking about her Ambition Bird exhibition she immediately wanted to pay tribute to Basquiat, linking him to the myth of Icarus for his bold striving toward the sun. The fervour of his ambition birds made them rush faster and higher, and he lived sometimes too close to the sun, but his radiance makes him live on; so many artists and art lovers are grateful to him for carrying the weight of Icarus' wings. This painting is Toni's love-letter to Basquiat.
