Working on
many pieces at once she stands back and lets each one rest

in between intense bursts of activity on the
canvas, moving on to the next. The traces of these sessions in the studio are
captured in the layers of the painting, telling their own story. The pieces
'Wing-borne' and 'Finding Light' are rendered in a subtle way and were made alongside larger
pieces dense in colour; these
two
paintings held the space of wings and light in air perfectly amidst the chaos in the studio.

Provenance

In her paintings Toni attempts to create space for the unconscious to surface, in herself and in the viewer, with the hope that the completed painting might become a kind of 'holding space', one that shifts and alters with time. Working on many pieces at once she stands back and lets each one rest in between intense bursts of activity on the canvas, moving on to the next. The traces of these sessions in the studio are captured in the layers of the painting, telling their own story. The pieces 'Wing-borne' and 'Finding Light' are rendered in a subtle way and were made alongside larger pieces dense in colour; these 2 paintings held the space of wings and light in air perfectly amidst the chaos in the studio.
