A neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker titled Remnants of Stars. Across a wide black tray surface scattered with sparkling diamond dust, the words 'We are all made of Stardust' are bent in flowing white neon script, the handwriting loose and personal, each letter trailing soft halos of light. The diamond dust across the dark ground glitters like a field of tiny stars, so the phrase appears to be written in light across the night sky itself. The words state the work's whole idea: that the matter we are made of was forged in stars, and the light of the writing is the reminder. The wide, low format lets the sentence read like a horizon of light in a dark room. Lauren Baker | Remnants of Stars
A close-up detail of Remnants of Stars, the neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker. The photograph fills the frame with the end of the phrase, the letters of 'Stardust' bent in thick white glass tubing, their cursive loops curving and crossing with visible joins and mounting posts fixed to the panel behind. The tray's surface is dense with diamond dust, its dark ground glittering with thousands of tiny reflective fragments, brightest where the neon's glow falls across it and fading to deep navy in the shadowed corners. The tight framing shows the work's construction up close: real glass tubes, hand-bent and mounted, standing proud of a surface hand-covered in crystal, the phrase literally written in light on a field of ground star. A styled interior photograph showing Remnants of Stars, the neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker, hung on a dark blue wall in a moody, monochromatic living room. The wide black tray, scattered with sparkling diamond dust, carries the white neon script 'We are all made of Stardust', its glow the brightest point in the room. Below it, a teal velvet sofa with patterned and fringed cushions sits behind a glass and brass coffee table styled with glassware and a sprig of greenery, with a brass tripod floor lamp and grey rug completing the scene. The shot shows the work doing exactly what it was made to do: in a darkened room, the phrase reads like a night sky with writing in it, the piece acting as both artwork and the room's only starlight. Lauren Baker | Remnants of Stars
An angled photograph of Remnants of Stars, the neon artwork by British artist Lauren Baker, taken in a dark room so the piece is the only light source. The wide black tray, its entire surface scattered with sparkling diamond dust, hangs on the wall with its right edge catching the glow along its depth. Across the centre, the white neon script 'We are all made of Stardust' burns brightly, its light pooling onto the dust around the lettering so the tray reads as a slice of night sky with a sentence written across it. The rest of the room falls to black, the glitter field receding toward the edges, the phrase holding the centre like a horizon. The view shows the work operating as pure light in darkness, the way it would live on a wall in the evening. Lauren Baker | Remnants of Stars

Remnants of Stars carries one of the oldest ideas in Baker's practice: that we are all made of stardust. The phrase recurs across her work as a refrain, the scientific fact that the atoms in our bodies were forged in dying stars, dressed in her language of light. Here it becomes a wide, low work in white neon and diamond dust on a black aluminium box tray: glowing glass tubing spelling its message across a field of crushed crystal, the sparkle of the dust standing in for the stars themselves, the neon for the light they left behind. The title works in both directions: we are the remnants of stars, and the stars are the remnants of something still burning. The wide format, 150 cm across and 75 cm high, suits the thought. Baker's typographic neons aim to raise the vibration of love and connection by reminding us of our place in the universe, and this piece reads horizontally like a horizon line, a phrase of light stretched across the dark. The black aluminium ground swallows the room's light so the neon and the glittering dust do all the visible work, the words seeming to float in a night sky of their own making. The image family has a life beyond the original: the title also exists as a hand-embellished print edition, now sold out, which makes the original neon the work in its fullest form, light replacing ink. White neon and diamond dust on a black aluminium box tray, H75 x W150 x D12 cm, the tray's depth letting the glow wash into its shadowed edges. Signed and numbered from an edition of 6. £12,000.
