"A study of transition and passage. Sweeping forms move across the surface, creating a sense of entering one space and emerging into another. The layered veneers emphasise the changing relationship between light, shadow and depth." - William Storey

The Interstice Collection explores the spaces and relationships that exist between opposing forms, materials and perspectives.

Constructed from carefully selected wood veneers and layered relief elements, each work brings together contrasting surfaces, geometric structures and organic forms to create a sense of depth, rhythm and visual tension.

The collection is rooted in an interest in the built environment but looks beyond architecture as a subject. Instead, Storey focuses on the spaces created between structure, the moments where one plane meets another, where solid form gives way to recess, and where natural material contrasts with constructed geometry.

Through the precise layering of veneer, cut forms and recessed elements, the works shift between two and three dimensions. Natural grain becomes part of the composition, while light and shadow continually alter the perception of the surface as the viewer moves around each piece.

Interstice therefore considers the space between things: between surface and depth, structure and nature, order and movement, permanence and change.

Each work is deliberately constructed so that these relationships remain open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to discover new forms and perspectives within the layers.
