Dreamland is part of a series of larger works developed from my 10 × 15 cm mini sketchbook pieces. In scaling up, I was interested in preserving the intimacy and density of those smaller works while allowing the composition to exist more expansively in space.

From afar, Dreamland appears calm and understated, but as you move closer, the composition becomes increasingly layered and involved. Built from repeated divisions based on the sketchbook format, the work brings together many individual elements into a carefully balanced whole.

The piece required a considered and time-intensive process, with equal focus given to the overall composition and the detail within each section. My intention was to create a work that continues to reveal itself the more you look at it.
