The work itself. "Mellia Sees 4" is a licensed Marvel Fine Art limited edition by British artist Paul Mellia, presented as a comic-book cover showing Ben Grimm, The Thing of the Fantastic Four, reaching out of the frame against a red-and-purple burst background. The title is a play on "Fantastic Four", seen through Mellia's eyes. It's an edition of 15, each artist proof is unique, the Superheroes Collection editions are individually hand embellished by the artist, so no two are identical .
Why the Marvel licence matters. Mellia is described as the only artist officially licensed to reproduce Marvel characters as fine art . Marvel offered him the licence in 2006 after spotting his distinctive three-dimensional style, covering Spider-Man, The Hulk, Silver Surfer, the Fantastic Four and others . That exclusivity is the core of the piece's collectibility: this isn't fan art, it's the only sanctioned fine-art interpretation channel Marvel has granted.
His works have sold for up to £59,000, with collectors including Lisa-Marie Presley, Seal and Tommy Lee.Join our mailing list
