Toni says ".I am on a pursuit to make contemporary portraits that dig beneath the skin to swim in our consciousness, to reveal our stories and the marks we make on ours and others' lifelines, the traces of ourselves we give, revisit, and leave behind." This idea was central to this painting. A head-on figure looming large on the canvas to really work into, dig into, bringing out a sense of the unknown territory of inner life, and the deep truths seated there.
