The architectural form in this piece is based loosely on Piazza Matteotti skyscraper, a mixed-use mid-century high-rise building in Tuscany, completed in 1966.
All of my work from this series feature geometric shapes as an indication of man-made structures (the temporary marks we leave on the landscape) interacting with the fluid, organic backdrop of abstracted landforms.
Nature versus structure is particularly apparent in this work. The architectural form initially appears dominant, but closer inspection reveals the landform resisting the challenge of the man-made structure.
The metallic diagonal lines in the sky are deliberately broken, and tonally similar to parts of the sky creating movement and depth in changing light.
