Calantha, from the Greek meaning “lovely flower,” is beautifully realised by Rosie Emerson. Overhead, pink blossoms scatter like a constellation across the sky, floating above the profile of a young woman who gazes upward in quiet contemplation. The figure is created using the cyanotype process: a historic photographic technique in which light-sensitive coated paper is exposed to sunlight, producing rich Prussian blues and delicate silhouettes. Finished with a gold-leaf arched frame, the work carries a heavenly quality reminiscent of sacred icons.
