Puppeteer forms part of a series of larger works inspired by my earlier 10 × 15 cm mini sketchbook pieces. With this series, I wanted to expand those intimate studies into compositions that work in two ways: as complete images viewed from a distance, and as detailed works that reveal more the closer you look.

At first glance, Puppeteer appears restrained and minimal, but closer inspection reveals a much denser and more intricate composition. The work is structured through repeated divisions that echo the original sketchbook format, with each section contributing to the balance of the overall piece while holding its own internal detail.

The process was labour-intensive, requiring careful attention to how every part worked both individually and as part of the whole. I wanted the piece to hold attention over time, with details and relationships gradually revealing themselves the  more you looked.
