Merging the
realism of the face with painterly layers of collage, words and marks this
painting follows my love for exploring our inner lives and the ways they meet
our outer world and environments. Intuitively led, a kind of emotional
landscape is constructed from the layers, somewhere memories and thoughts can
be half-formed but fully felt. I am obsessed by the fluidity of our inner
narratives and continuing reactions to the world around us, something behind
our eyes, flowing on below the surface of daily life.
I like to
include elements of nature and man-made buildings, streets; the places we move
through and dwell. In this painting, a scene of a road lined with houses, trailing
into the distance cuts into the bottom right section. A journey travelled,
arriving and departing, a sense of living. Reels and frames of our lives.
Collaged words and handwritten text represent our inner monologues, memories
and conversations. Our messages and mantras; the multitudinous fragments of
life. Dark and light, fleeting and ever flowing.
