Lady Stardust takes it’s name from a song by David Bowie which appears on his fifth album “ the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust”. A song primarily about his friend Marc Bolan but which also investigates the idea of identity in an ever-changing period in modern culture. This fluidity of the gender role which so fascinated Bowie is one of the themes explored within the piece. References to Bowie and his music naturally pervade the artwork, and images from the period such as vintage button badges and magazine clippings highlight the chameleon-like persona’s he adopted and which work alongside these ideas of metamorphosis and exploration of thought.
