From Oasis to opera: Mixed media artist Steve Rawlings creates limited edition, beautiful artworks that have visual impact and hidden narratives
Steve Rawlings is a contemporary collage and mixed media artist based in Bath. Heavily inspired by the rich traditions of pop art and photography, these two artistic genres form the foundations of his work.
Blending and fusing together digital and analogue techniques with hand-rendered elements, his exploration of pop culture and its language are the driving forces of creating beautiful artworks.
In 2025, Steve Rawlings was among the selected artists chosen to provide backdrops to Oasis's highly anticipated comeback concerts. Other clients include Lucas Films, The English National Opera, The Royal Opera House, and Aston Martin.
A world of inspiration
After gaining a first class honours degree at the Kent Institute of Art & Design, Steve Rawlings began his career as a graphic artist and illustrator.
Inspired by the likes of fellow artist Robert Rauschenberg and Vaughan Oliver, as well as the worlds of music and film, Steve’s early commissions were rooted in the mixed media, cut-and-paste traditions of collage.
He integrated his own analogue film photography with expressive self-generated textures and found ephemera, producing graphic works that have been much in demand in the publishing, design and advertising industries worldwide.
Steve Rawlings: A catalyst for creation
An artwork can often be inspired by the smallest of things , a lyric from a song, a line from a book, a fleeting glimpse of an advertisement: it is all the catalyst for creating as far as Steve Rawlings is concerned.
The graphic elements are the signposts of each limited edition piece. He collages images to create hidden narratives within the spaces and layers.
Steve’s work seeks to reflect our everyday lives: offering both a figurative and abstract beauty, a gaudy pop art brash reality and also an underlying world of imagination.
A high-profile portfolio
Steve Rawlings’ work explores constantly evolving and experimental processes. His wide-ranging portfolio not only includes providing one of the electrifying backdrops for Oasis’ 2025 reunion concerts, there are also theatre and opera posters for high-profile clients in the arts.
