Brad Faine: A Pioneer of Graphic & Conceptual Art

In 1965 Brad Faine attended a foundation course at West Sussex College of Art, which had recently employed a number of talented young artists who instilled in their students an interest in and an excitemment for Conceptual Art.

Brad continued to be committed to conceptualism after finishing the course in 1966.

His interest was further heightened at Leicester Collegeof Art where he was fortunate enough to study when Harry Thubron was head of painting. Harry introduced a number of luninaries to the course, including the artist Sydney Harry, the most remarkable colourist whose amazing research led Brad Faine to become fascinated by the myriad aspects of colour phenomena and to explore ways of integrating them into his printmaking and painting. Brad still continues to exploit this in both his work and in the past as the basis of colour practice at Coriander Studio, the limited edition print works he formed with his wife and her family in 1972.

Since 2004 Brad has attempted to create images that appear at first sight, attractive or even 'pretty' but on closer inspection contain alliterative texts that contradict, question or are critical of the visual content of the image.
